About Kommetjie

Kommetjie (meaning ‘small basin’ in Afrikaans) is named as such thanks to its beautiful basin-shaped bay. Positioned about half way along the west coast of the Cape Peninsula and just a short drive from Noordhoek, it’s the kind of place that invites you to stop, relax and explore.

Kommetjie is another small, rustic seaside community about 10 minutes drive beyond Noordhoek where the quiet and laid back lifestyle of locals and visitors is very much focussed on enjoying the 5km “Long Beach” as it’s called, with a reputation as one of Cape Town’s finest spots for crayfishing (when permitted in the summer months), surfing and other water sports but the beach is equally lovely just for long scenic walks, with rock pools to explore and a tidal swimming pool that works well for children.

Kommetjie started out as a weekend beach retreat for Capetonians who built simple beach houses here in the early 1900’s and it has still retained much of its unspoilt charm and the feeling of escaping far from the relative buzz of the Mother City. There is a small local store for provisions, a garage and several local restaurants but Kommetjie is also just a short drive from the more major shopping facilities of Fish Hoek and the Sun Valley shopping centre near Noordhoek.

Choose from a wide range of properties which Cape. Luxury offers. Self catering accommodation here consists of luxury Villas, beach bungalows and rental holiday homes – often located right on the beach. We’ll Find The Perfect Holiday Rental For your Stay.
